Joseph Machosky, a 2022 Battlefield High School graduate, was honored at this year's 43rd Documentary Emmy Awards Ceremony in New York City. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) acknowledged Machosky for being awarded the NATAS Inclusion Scholarship. It is a prestigious scholarship offered across the country to a top high school senior who identifies as black, indigenous, or a person of color and who intends to pursue a baccalaureate degree in television. Machosky created a short video as part of his application for the grant in addition to his essay.

A portion of Machosky's short film was screened, and they recognized Battlefield High at the Emmys ceremony and on the big screen. Machosky had the chance to give a speech and meet several notable people.

“Before receiving this award, my ambitions of getting into the film industry seemed like a dream, but this experience has gotten me one step closer to turning that dream into reality,” said Machosky.

During his junior year at Battlefield, Machosky started the film club and wrote and shot short films.

“I took Film Studies where I also had to make a few small film projects. My main piece of work I did during high school was a short film I created for the applications to other major film schools” said Machosky. Machosky is currently a first-year student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

The NATAS Foundation gave $90K in scholarships to only seven high school students interested in pursuing professions in television.
