Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

Throughout Black History Month, our schools highlighted the accomplishments of African Americans in our nation’s history. I invite you to watch our students share some of their lessons learned during Black History Month.

With February coming to a close and as we begin to look forward to the spring months and warmer weather, we also experience a renewed community focus on supporting the instructional needs of our students through daily attendance. Every school day, our teachers provide quality instruction, engaging lessons, and the reassuring routine and stability our students need to feel in control of their educational experience. Empower your student’s learning by ensuring their attendance in class each day.

As we are now halfway into the third quarter, I encourage all families to check-in with your student’s academic progress and well-being. Great resources to help monitor student progress and assignments include ParentVUE and Canvas. If your student needs academic support, be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher or school counselor, as we are committed to helping every student succeed.

On Wednesday evening, PWCS began hosting families and community members at our first of three Safety and Security Briefings to engage in ongoing discussions about our comprehensive approach to “deter, detect, and defend,” including the use of new preventative technology. Our next two meetings will be held at Freedom High School on Monday, February 27, and at Woodbridge High School on Tuesday, February 28. We hope to see and hear from you at one of these scheduled community events or at our Zoom webinar on March 2. More information can be found on the PWCS website.

National Read Across America Day is held on March 2 to celebrate and recognize the power of reading. While our schools have many activities planned to celebrate reading, we invite you to join us in fostering a love of reading by encouraging your student to read at home and even sharing your favorite book with your child.
