Public Schools Week is a time to celebrate the dedication and achievements of public schools across the nation. In Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS), the commitment to “Learning and Achievement for All” is more than just a motto—it’s a reality that students, teachers, and the community experience every day.
PWCS offers a rich array of academic specialty programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, providing access to two Governor’s Schools. High school students can earn college credits through dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, Cambridge Programme, and International Baccalaureate courses. Career and technical education specialty programs, along with industry certification opportunities and work-based learning, prepare students for future success.
PWCS is nationally recognized for its use of technology in instruction. Every school boasts age-appropriate robotics programs, fostering innovation and critical thinking from a young age. The division’s pioneering instruction in language, technology, and career readiness equips students for lifelong success, including the opportunity to learn 10 world languages.
The positive climate and culture at PWCS are reinforced through our You Belong Here initiative for staff and resources to support student success, such as no-cost mental health telehealth services for all students. PWCS is also a leader in sustainability and environmental education, being named a Green Ribbon school district by the U.S. Department of Education and saving nearly $80 million through energy conservation over the last 12 years.
Family and community engagement are central to PWCS’ mission. With 159 countries and 174 languages represented, PWCS supports 100% of family home languages through two-way communication and auto-translation. Each school has at least one formal partnership with businesses, career and technical education programs, or community organizations, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Public Schools Week is a reminder of the invaluable role public schools like PWCS play in shaping the future. Thank you to every educator, student, parent/guardian, volunteer, and community member who helps make our vision that every student will graduate on time with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to create a thriving future for themselves and their community a reality.
