The Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) has named Lydia Larimore, a school counselor at Neabsco Elementary School, as the 2025 Counselor of the Year. This recognition is a testament to Larimore’s unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, and profound impact on the students and community she serves. The VSCA has selected Larimore’s application to move forward for consideration at the national level for the American School Counselor Association National School Counselor of the Year. Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will be notified later this year if Larimore has been selected.

"I believe in the intrinsic powers of students. When given opportunities to lead, demonstrate empathy, build connections, and develop positive mindsets, they undergo profound growth and transformations—gaining the confidence to reach for the stars and unlock their full potential. I love being part of creating a nurturing environment where ALL students feel valued, inspired, and capable of achieving greatness,” shared Larimore.

Brooke Levecchi, principal at Neabsco Elementary, expressed immense pride in Larimore’s achievement, stating, "Lydia's dedication to our students and her innovative approach to counseling have made a profound impact on our school community. We are incredibly proud of her and this well-deserved recognition."

Larimore’s colleagues and students alike have praised her for her empathy, creativity, and support. Her efforts have not only improved the academic performance of her students but also their emotional and social well-being.

The VSCA Counselor of the Year award is a highly coveted accolade that acknowledges outstanding contributions to the field of school counseling. Larimore’s commitment to fostering a positive school environment, her ability to connect with students, and her leadership in implementing effective counseling strategies have set her apart as a leader in her profession.
