Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School theater students posing for a photo at the Cappies awards

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

As we are nearing the end of another school year, I extend my best wishes to all students completing end-of-year assessments and final exams. I have full confidence in your dedication and effort as you conclude the academic year strong.

I want to congratulate Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School’s theater department for earning seven nominations and winning three Cappie Awards, a highly regarded recognition for high school theater and journalism students. We are so proud of the arts here in PWCS, and we continue to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students, including Colgan High’s recognition across three distinguished categories:

  • Best Vocalist in a Male Role - sophomore Andrew Serrano-Bremer
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Male Role - junior Jeremiah Gates
  • Best Song - Colgan’s theater department

On Wednesday night, the School Board acknowledged the contributions of the School Board student representatives:

  • Almudena Latorre from C.D. Hylton High School
  • Alaa Rashed from Unity Reed High School
  • Alternate: Kailey Thom from Brentsville District High School

These bright and insightful student leaders assisted the School Board in serving as reliable partners throughout the educational process with students, families, and the community. I am deeply appreciative of their engagement on the School Board this year. Looking toward the future, I look forward to working with our new student representatives. Congratulations to our 2025-26 School Board student representatives:

  • Kareena Grover from Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School
  • Beulah Sarsah from C.D. Hylton High School
  • Alternate: William Tyler from Brentsville District High School

I know our representatives will carry on the proud tradition and invaluable contributions by lending their unique voices to help better PWCS.

Further congratulations to three PWCS principals on their selection for the Cahn Distinguished Principals Fellowship. Those principals are:

  • Dr. Heather Abney from Woodbridge High School
  • Matthew Phythian from Bull Run Middle School
  • R. J. Lucciotti from Pattie Elementary School

The Cahn Fellows program is nationally recognized for excellence in education and supports strong school leaders to improve education for all students. This year, only 60 principals were selected to participate nationwide. I am enormously proud of our principals as they are the third cohort in PWCS to be bestowed with this honor. I invite you to read more about this prestigious and exciting opportunity for our principals and the PWCS community.

We look forward to seeing all our students during these last four days of the 2024-25 school year. As a final reminder, June 12 is the last day of school and will be an early-release day.

Sincerely,
Dr. McDade signature
