The Office of Division Counsel serves as the in-house legal department for Prince William County Public Schools and its governing body, the School Board. Acting as counsel to the School Board as a whole – not individual members – the office advises the Board and the Superintendent on day‑to‑day matters, reviews and drafts policies and regulations, and collaborates with staff to address issues proactively and in the best interests of the school division. The office is also responsible for the oversight of outside counsel providing legal services to the school division. The office supports the school division’s work by ensuring that decisions, policies, and practices align with federal and state law. Attorneys in the Office of Division Counsel provide legal guidance and expertise across key areas such as student matters, special education, employment, contracts, procurement, real estate, and policy development. Through timely, practical, and solutions‑oriented legal support, the Office of Division Counsel helps safeguard the integrity of PWCS operations and achieve the Board’s and the school division’s objectives.
