Beginning July 1, 2026, students participating in PWCS high school marching band are considered student-athletes for the purposes of eligibility, health and safety requirements, and participation expectations. Marching band participants are subject to student-athlete requirements outlined by PWCS and applicable Virginia High School League (VHSL) regulations, including academic eligibility, VHSL physicals, and completion of annual student-athlete education.
Student-athlete education, formerly known as concussion education, is completed annually as part of the online school athletic registration process. The training educates student-athletes and their parents/guardians about topics related to the health of student-athletes.
Virginia law requires every student-athlete and their parent/guardian to review the information shared in the student-athlete education and sign a statement acknowledging receipt of the information to participate in any athletic activity.
