Everything families need to know about bus transportation in PWCS, from routes and expectations to safety and communication.
Our number one priority is the safety of students.
PWCS’ Transportation Department works every day to provide safe, on-time, and cost-effective transportation services for students.
We also strive to provide parents and guardians with timely communications and updates regarding their students’ bus transportation.
Virginia law permits school boards to provide transportation for students but does not require them to do so (Virginia Code § 22.1-176).
PWCS provides bus service for students who live more than one mile from their zoned school. Special provisions are arranged for students with disabilities.
Express bus service is also provided for students enrolled in all Specialty Programs. This service is to and from express bus stops only. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to provide transportation to/from express bus stops, which can be up to 5 miles from the student’s residence in many cases.
Each school year in May or June, parents and guardians are asked to share with PWCS whether their student requires bus transportation for the upcoming school year.
By opting out of bus transportation, you help our bus operations team plan bus routes and bus driver hiring needs better.
