Practical Nursing Program Application Process
Research your options
Review specialty program information and determine if the Practical Nursing program is one of the specialty programs you would like to apply for.
Required information
Applicants applying to the Practical Nursing program will need the following information before completing the application:
- Contact information - name, address, phone number, and email address
- High School Students Only - PWCS student ID number, PWCS email address, current school, and school counselor’s name.
- Adults Learners Only - Prior college certificate/degree experience, if applicable; current and most recent employer’s business/organization name and job title, if applicable.
- Availability for admissions testing – applicants will be asked to provide a first, second, and third choice exam date between March 24 – 28, 2025. Sessions will be held each day at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- Reference contact information – applicants must provide the name and email address of a professional reference (not a family member).

Step 1: Review eligibility criteria and the application process

Step 2: Complete the Contact Information section
- Carefully review and confirm all contact information is correct. This information will be used to contact the applicant during the application process.
Step 3: Complete Application Information section
- Read and verify understanding of the acknowledgment statement regarding providing a Social Security number for clinical experiences and NCLEX licensure.
- Select the type of application.
- Current grade 11 students
- Complete the required questions.
- Current grade 12 students
- Read and verify understanding of the acknowledgment statement regarding beginning the program as an adult learner after graduation.
- Complete the required questions.
- Adult applicants
- Complete Educational and Employment Experience questions related to current and previous education and/or employment, if applicable.
- Read and verify understanding of the acknowledgment regarding the requirement to provide an official U.S. high school transcript, GED certificate, or an out-of-country transcript evaluation from a NACES member evaluation agency indicating that the transcript is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma (or higher).
- Current grade 11 students
Step 4: Complete the Admission Testing section
- Review the Admissions Testing information.
- Select your first, second, and third choice for a date and time for admissions testing between March 24-28, 2025.
- Select NO for all times other than the first, second, and third choice.
Step 5: Complete the Required Recommendation section
- Enter the name, email address, and relationship of a professional reference.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify this person that they will receive an email requesting a recommendation form.
- Recommendation forms must be received by February 10, 2025.
Step 6: Submit Application
- Review the steps of the application process again before submitting the form.
- Print or save a copy of your complete application for your records.

All Applicants
- Notify your professional reference that they should expect to receive an email from the Practical Nursing Coordinator, requesting that they complete an electronic recommendation form. Recommendations must be completed no later than February 10, 2025.
- Monitor your email between February 15-28, 2025, for notification confirming your assigned Admissions Testing session (date and time). If you do not receive an email by February 28, 2025, please contact Tammy Dean at [email protected] to follow up and request an exam date.

- Practice writing a one-page essay using correct grammar, spelling, sentence, and paragraph structure.

- An official U.S. high school transcript, GED certificate, or transcript evaluation is required to complete your application.

- Visit the NACES member evaluation agency website for instructions on how to get your transcript evaluated.
- Ensure the evaluation states it is equivalent to an American High School diploma or higher.
- The evaluation must be received by February 1, 2025.
