Cosmetology students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the Virginia Board of Registered Professional Hairdressers examination for licensing. Graduates are expected to take the state examination. Students who complete this program successfully and pass their licensure examinations have the skills and knowledge needed for the following entry-level jobs: manicurist, salon receptionist, shampoo technician, and licensed cosmetologist. This two-year program of study begins in 11th grade and includes:

Note: Applications for this program are open for rising 11th grade students.
Program Type
Transport Program – Students in the Cosmetology program begin the day at their base school and are transported to their assigned program school. Because the program continues through the end of the school day, students may take an express bus or a bus back to their base school in the afternoon. The bus returning to the base school arrives after regular buses have departed but allows students to participate in after-school activities. Students may also drive if they meet the requirements, obtain a parking permit from their base school, and contact the program school’s office regarding its parking requirements.
