Osbourn Park High School Principal Lisamarie Kane

The Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) named Osbourn Park High School Principal Lisamarie Kane the 2024 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia. Kane was selected by a panel of principals and superintendents representing the Principal Awards Committee of VASSP.

"We are thrilled to learn Lisamarie Kane has been named the 2024 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia. Lisamarie has created a foundation of excellence at Osbourn Park High School, and this recognition attests to her unyielding commitment to her students and staff. We are proud to have a PWCS leader represented as VASSP’s Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia. It is a testament to the tremendous talent and commitment in this great district," said PWCS Superintendent of Schools Dr. LaTanya D. McDade.

Kane has spent 16 years in Prince William County Public Schools. She has been the principal at Osbourn Park High since 2020. Kane served as assistant principal at Gar-Field High School from 2015 to 2020. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in food science from the University of Florida, and a certificate in advanced graduate studies in education leadership from the University of New England.

Kane said that she initially discovered her love of teaching as a scientist leading research teams in the food industry, so she altered her career path to pursue her passion for education. After 10 years teaching chemistry and biology, she became an assistant principal, supervising special education, science, and mathematics. Kane is passionate about minimizing barriers to instruction through collaborative learning teams, teacher efficacy, and her conviction that no child is “at risk” but, rather, all are “at promise.”

According to VASSP, this award is designed to recognize outstanding principals whose contributions to the profession are exemplary and recognized by their peers and communities alike. The program honors principals who have exhibited extraordinary leadership, commitment to their students and faculty, service to their communities and contributions to the overall profession, including their professional associations.

Kane will be honored for her accomplishments at the June 2024 Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference & Exposition.
