Middle school students sitting at desks in a classroom

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

The second week of school has been all about establishing a positive climate and culture by creating a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for teaching and learning. Throughout my second week of school visits, I have been inspired by the activities, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit permeating throughout our hallways, classrooms, and schools.

A welcoming climate begins with a sustainable space for environmental education. We are proud of our 13 schools the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has designated as Virginia Naturally Schools for authentic and real-world application to learning. The Virginia Naturally School recognition is a crucial step toward Green Ribbon School designation by the U.S. Department of Education.

Our students achieve when they are present in school and connecting to our teachers. As September is Attendance Awareness Month, please join us for our first Family Engagement Series webinar on September 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. to receive valuable information about attendance procedures and policy as we continue to support student success.

Speaking of supporting students, thank you to the 85.79% of families who completed the Back to School Packet. If you have yet to do so, please complete the packet in ParentVUE as soon as possible and no later than September 13. The Back to School Packet provides critical information in case of an emergency and other important information about your student. If you need assistance, please contact your student’s school, or visit the Back to School webpage for more information.

As a reminder, in observance of Labor Day, schools and offices are closed to the public on Friday, August 30, and schools and offices are closed on Monday, September 2. I wish you a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,
