Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

We had an incredible first quarter, filled with remarkable achievements and inspiring moments of learning. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated students, supportive parents, committed teachers, diligent staff, and the entire community for making it a success. As we move forward, I am excited about the possibilities and look forward to continuing our journey together through the rest of the school year.

I am thrilled to share exciting academic opportunities available to our high school students through innovative programs. Early Online College is a partnership between PWCS and Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) in which 11 and 12 grade students can take up to two college courses online each semester at no tuition cost, with families only responsible for purchasing required textbooks or course materials.

More than a dozen courses are available for students this spring, and new this spring, some Early Online College courses can be used for dual enrollment. I hope you will join us and learn more, as NVCC is holding an information session on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 6 p.m.

I also wish to invite everyone to the November 6 School Board meeting, where we will focus on two key topics: the adoption of the school calendar and updates to the PWCS cell phone and wireless communication device pilot program. Board members will review the three proposed school calendar options voted on by students, staff, and families, as well as considerations for holidays and professional development days. With input from the PWCS community, the discussion aims to ensure the calendar reflects the needs of the community while supporting student learning and staff well-being.

In addition, the Board will address the division's cell phone and wireless communication device pilot program , evaluating whether current guidelines align with educational goals and classroom management strategies. The update will review balancing technology use for learning with minimizing distractions, general health and wellness, and meeting the needs of our students.

As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, November 1, for Diwali. Students also have non-attendance days on November 4 and 5, with parent-teacher conferences occurring on November 4. Enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing our students again on Wednesday, November 6.

Sincerely,
