The Virginia High School League (VHSL) has awarded Battlefield High School the National Guard Cup for the 2023-24 academic year, recognizing their outstanding achievements in both athletic and academic activities. This marks the second time in three years that Battlefield High has earned this distinguished honor.
“Battlefield High School's VHSL Army National Guard Cup achievement two out of the last three years demonstrates our school's commitment to excellence,” shared Battlefield High School Principal DeLores Lucas. “It is an indication of our dedication to working together as a school community with our coaches, educators, and parents to bring out the best in our students, to instill stamina, competitive spirit, and collaborative mindset.”
The Virginia Army National Guard presents the National Guard Cup to the top high school in each of the VHSL’s six classifications. The award is based on a point system that considers performance in state-level competitions across 27 sports and 12 academic activities.
Battlefield earned the VHSL Class 6 National Guard Cup by accumulating 370 points over the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The Bobcats earned 172.5 points in the spring, 85 in the winter, and 112.5 in the fall.
Since the inception of the National Guard Cup in 1990, Battlefield is one of three high schools in Prince William County to receive this honor. Brentsville District High School won three consecutive titles for Group A from 2001-03, and Woodbridge High School claimed the title in 1994 and 1991.
