The Prince William County School Board has adopted the 2025-26 school calendar. The approved calendar aligns with community and staff input, providing a three-day Thanksgiving break, two weeks of winter break, and a teacher workday following spring break.
The 2025-26 school calendar’s first day of school for students will be August 19, 2025*, and the last day of school will be June 12, 2026. Schools will be closed for winter break from December 22, 2025, through January 2, 2026. Schools will reopen on January 5, 2026. Spring break will be observed from March 30 - April 6, 2026.
During the meeting on November 19, the School Board stated they will review the PWCS holidays policy and consider adding Eid al-Adha as a holiday. If the policy is updated in January, the school calendar will be revised at that time. *The addition of a holiday may require moving the first day of school for students up one day to August 18.
The calendar was developed with broad feedback from the PWCS community. More than 150 PWCS community members were invited to share their priorities for the school calendar and provide feedback on specific draft instructional calendars through a calendar committee. In addition, from October 7-15, the 2025-26 school calendar survey was available for comment by parents, guardians, students, and staff. More than 14,000 community members shared their input on the school calendar, including 8,249 parents and guardians, and 4,316 staff members.
Families are encouraged to review the school calendar, and plan family trips and schedule medical appointments to minimize the impact on instruction time for students.
