Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade speaking with a student at Innovation Elementary School

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

Earlier this week, students from The Governor’s School @ Innovation Park visited Innovation Elementary School to share in the wonder and fun of STEM education. I invite you to experience for yourself this annual event, which highlights the importance of fostering curiosity, creativity, and collaboration among young learners.

As we approach the end of the calendar year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our outstanding achievements and express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone in our community for their continued support and fervent dedication.

I am so proud to share the U.S. News & World Report has named Porter Traditional School the fourth-best middle school in Virginia. This ranking highlights the school’s academic achievements in mathematics and reading, setting it apart from other middle schools in the state. Congratulations to Principal Kaitlyn Engelmeier-Foor and Porter Traditional students, staff, and community.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest business career and technical student organization in the world. I am excited to celebrate Juliocesar Flores, a senior at Potomac High School, for his remarkable achievements: placing first in accounting at both the regional and state levels of the FBLA competition and earning second place out of 200 competitors nationwide at FBLA’s National Leadership Conference. Juliocesar is a perfect example of what our students achieve in our CTE programs.

Speaking of achievements, the Woodbridge High School boy's cross-country team has once again etched its name in history, claiming a second consecutive Class 6 State Championship title. This remarkable achievement builds on last year’s historic win, which marked the team’s first state championship since 1990. Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly McGreal, Coach Andrew McCarthy, and the entire team for their commitment, teamwork, and leadership.

As a reminder, the application deadline for the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Specialty Program is Saturday, December 14, 2024. All applications must be submitted by that date to be considered for 2025-26 school year. Next week is the final week before our winter break. We look forward to seeing every student each day next week. See you Monday!

Sincerely,
Dr. McDade signature
