The oratorical legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. resonates through the eloquent voices of young student orators, who will present at the 40th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Youth Oratorical Program, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel Street in Triangle.
Congratulations to the Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) students selected at regional competitions to present at the MLK Program:
Middle School
- Soluchi Eze, eighth grade, Benton Middle School
- Chizaram Felix-Ugorji, eighth grade, Pennington Traditional School
- Ezana Tesfaye, seventh grade, Porter Traditional School
High School
- Jordyn Nesbitt, 12th grade, Gainesville High School
- Rabab Raza, ninth grade, Osbourn Park High School
- Naomi Samuel, 11th grade, Battlefield High School
Additionally, one student each from the middle and high school levels will receive the Judge's Choice/Honorable Mention Award, to be announced at the event.
This MLK event, sponsored by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST), is open to the public. The oratorical competition invites students in grades 6-12 from PWCS and other area schools to participate. The competition provides students with the opportunity to first write and then present an oration celebrating the life and accomplishments of Dr. King.
The MLK program celebration will also feature the MLK Youth Community Choir, comprised of children in grades K-12, the Manassas Park High School “Chop Squad” Drumline, and the Fitzgerald Elementary School B.E.A.M. Step Team. The snow date is Saturday, January 25.
