Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will be reviewing its current grading policies and regulations to promote equity, consistency, and student engagement. This initiative reflects the division’s commitment to ensuring that all members of the school community have a voice in the educational process and that best practices align with research-based educational goals and policies.

To support this effort, PWCS has partnered with Hanover Research (Hanover) to conduct a comprehensive study of grading practices across the division. This review includes gathering feedback from stakeholders, analyzing current grading methods, and exploring teacher and parent perspectives through a “Grading Practices Inventory Survey.” The survey aims to address key topics such as grading consistency, formative and summative assessments, and point scales.

Additionally, PWCS is gathering insights on grading regulations and how these impact decision-making and future policy updates. Hanover will provide detailed insights into these areas, helping to ensure that any changes reflect the diverse needs of the PWCS community.

The review of the grading policies and regulations will be conducted January 2025 through the end of the 2024-25 school year with a goal of submitting a revised policy for School Board consideration by June 2025. More information about this project will be shared as PWCS continues to work toward consistent grading practices and effective grading regulations that enhance the learning and achievement of all students.
