Unity Reed High School girls soccer team inspires young athletes through community service

The Unity Reed High School girls soccer team is making a significant impact off the field by volunteering at the Super Scotties Soccer Club, an afterschool program for fourth and fifth grade students at Loch Lomond Elementary School. This initiative has introduced over 20 elementary students to organized sports, promoting participation in soccer and teamwork.

Jessica Perdue, head girls soccer coach at Unity Reed High, praised her student athletes for their dedication to community service. “I am incredibly proud of our players for stepping up and giving back to the community,” said Perdue. “School sports can be about so much more than winning; it can be about growth and learning what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself.”

Players helped students learn soccer basics and stressed teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. Perdue noted the lasting impact on both the young students and high school volunteers. “Our players are getting exposure to community service and seeing firsthand that giving back can be fun and fulfilling,” she said.

Team captain Beverly Borjas commented on the program, stating, “Doing this with my teammates makes it so much more meaningful. We’ve worked hard to build our program up, and now we’re side by side, showing these kids the same sense of teamwork we have.”

The Super Scotties Soccer Club at Loch Lomond Elementary promotes respect, kindness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Coaches create an inclusive atmosphere where all players feel valued, emphasizing support, fairness, and respect during training and matches.

This collaboration between Unity Reed and the Super Scotties Soccer Club is a testament to the power of sports in bringing communities together and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
