The Osbourn Park High School girls basketball team won the Class 6 state championship title, defeating Manchester High School (Midlothian, VA) with a final score of 60-48. This victory marks a historic milestone for the Yellow Jackets, as it’s their first time winning the Virginia VHSL High School Girls Basketball State Championship. It's also the first time a PWCS high school girls basketball team has won a state title since Woodbridge High School’s triumph in 2019.

“It was a hard-fought and emotional game. We fought until the very last second and it felt surreal to win with my teammates,” said Alex Brown, Osbourn Park High senior.

The team finished the season with an impressive 27-3 record, including an 18-game winning streak. This victory marks head coach Chrissy Kelly's third state title, adding to her previous wins in 2004 and 2006 at Forest Park High School.

Kelly has coached girls basketball at Osbourn Park for the past eight years. During that time, she’s seen her team grow and advance.

"Our kids want to play at the next level, so I try to create a high school program that mirrors a college one as closely as possible. The amount of time and work they put in is incredible; most people have no idea,” said Kelly.

She reflected on what it was like seeing her girls win the state championship game.

“For me, it was all about them. I knew when the buzzer went off, I was going to watch a group of girls who, a year and five days prior, were devastated losing in the state semifinal game. The hardest part about coaching is watching your girls’ sadness because you know how much time and work goes in,” said Kelly. “When I realized we won, I just sat back and watched them take it all in. My heart was so full.”

The entire school celebrated the girls' monumental victory and other state-qualifying student athletes with an indoor parade through the halls of the school. The players were met with cheers and excitement from their classmates, making it a day they’ll never forget.
