Inclusive and accessible playground opens at Washington-Reid Preschool Center

Washington-Reid Preschool Center, in collaboration with Game Time, and PWCS Special Education and Facilities Departments, has designed and constructed a new inclusive playground for preschool children aged two years and older.

The new playground, designed with inclusivity at its core, features wide sidewalks and ramps leading to engaging play structures, an inclusive glider accessible to all students, including those who use wheelchairs, adaptive swings with supportive seats, a sensory area with musical instruments, interactive equipment that bounces, spins, and makes sounds, and textured panels for children to enjoy tactile play. A separate playground has also been created specifically for two-year-old students.

“For the students of Washington-Reid Preschool Center, the new playground is more than just a place to play; it is a space where everyone belongs,” shared Taylor Fields, assistant principal at Washington-Reid Preschool Center.

Washington-Reid Preschool Center is one of the first schools in PWCS to feature an inclusive playground designed for students of all abilities to enjoy. The new playground is also available for community use after school hours and on weekends.
