The Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG) program at Unity Reed High School empowers students to take charge of their post-secondary paths—whether they are headed to college, trade school, or directly into the workforce.
Led by health and PE teacher Leigh Broady, the JVG program blends real-world experience with project-based learning to prepare students for life after graduation. From mock interviews and resume-building to field trips and team projects, the course equips students with the confidence and skills they need to succeed beyond high school.
“We talk about different types of colleges, practice mock interviews, and do a lot of teamwork,” one student shared. “We even take field trips to places like Macy’s and Men’s Wearhouse to learn about professional attire. JVG has helped me find the right college fit and figure out what works for me.”
While the curriculum aligns with national standards, Broady encourages students to help shape the direction of the course—making it more engaging and personally relevant. This student-centered approach reinforces essential life skills like professionalism, decision-making, and collaboration.
For many, the impact has been transformative—sparking personal growth and confidence.
“I wasn’t very involved in school before,” reflected Diana, a Prince William County Public Schools graduate and former student in the JVG program. “But JVG helped me step outside my comfort zone, build self-confidence, and try hard things. It taught me to believe in myself.”
Through hands-on activities, field trips, and personalized mentorship, the JVG program at Unity Reed High stands out as a key resource for helping students build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their chosen paths.
