Highlights from National Hispanic Heritage Month

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

PWCS is proud to recognize the Alliance for a Healthier Generation has named five Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) as 2025 America’s Healthiest Schools. Congratulations to Buckland Mills, Minnieville, Piney Branch, and Victory Elementary Schools, and Unity Braxton Middle School for earning the national recognition for their outstanding commitment to student and staff wellness. I encourage you to learn more about this national recognition.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is underway, and PWCS schools are celebrating the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. As diversity is our superpower, we are proud to uplift the legacy and stories of individuals whose impact continues to shape our nation.

September is also Suicide Prevention Month, an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the mental health and well-being of all students and staff. I encourage everyone in our community to reach out, listen, and show compassion, because even the smallest gesture of kindness can make a profound difference. Please remember, resources and support, like Hazel Health, are available through your school and on our PWCS website.

Additionally, PWCS is currently seeking stakeholder input on our new strategic plan—Vision 2030. This plan will guide our work for the next four years and help fulfill our vision to see every student graduate on time with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to create a thriving future for themselves and their community. Your voice is critical to realizing this vision, and I invite you to share your perspective by completing the Vision 2030 survey.

As we approach the halfway point of the first quarter, I encourage families to check in on your student’s attendance, grades, progress, and advancement toward graduation in ParentVUE. By staying connected, we can ensure every student stays on track and receives the support they need to achieve in school and be successful in life.

As a reminder, schools and offices are closed on Tuesday, September 23, in observance of Rosh Hashanah. We look forward to seeing all our students on Monday, September 22. Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,
