Family and Community Engagement

In Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS), the secret to student success lies in strong partnerships between families, schools, and the broader community. This November, as we celebrate Family Engagement Month, PWCS proudly highlights the collaborative efforts that make our school division a place where every student can thrive.

At the core of this commitment is a network of programs designed to connect, empower, and support families. These programs include, but are not limited to, the Family Engagement Series, school parent liaisons, family academic and community engagement specialists, and community hubs.

The Family Engagement Series offers practical resources and learning opportunities to help families guide and become active participants in their children’s academic journey. These events bring together educators, community leaders, and families in meaningful dialogue and shared learning.

Supporting family and community engagement are the dedicated school parent liaisons, who serve as bridges between home and school. Their mission is to create welcoming environments, foster open communication, and ensure families feel confident in navigating their children’s education. Whether organizing workshops or helping resolve concerns, these liaisons are champions of family involvement.

Working alongside them are the family academic and community engagement specialists (FACES). These specialists focus on strengthening families’ ability to support learning at home and understanding academic goals. By collaborating with school teams and analyzing student data, FACES help tailor support to meet each family’s unique needs.

PWCS also extends its reach through community hubs, which serve as neighborhood anchors for connection and support. These hubs offer safe spaces for learning, access to vital resources, and opportunities for families to engage with school staff and community partners.

"Family and community engagement is the cornerstone of student success. When schools, families, and community partners work together, we create a culture of trust, belonging, and shared responsibility,” said Dawn Davis, director of community outreach, business partnerships, and philanthropy. “These partnerships empower families, strengthen connections, and ensure every child has the support needed to thrive academically and personally.”

From every corner of the county, PWCS is building a culture where families are not just welcomed—they are essential. This month, we celebrate the people and programs that make family and community engagement a living, breathing part of our schools.
