November 3-7 is National School Psychology Week, and Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) is proud to join the National Association of School Psychologists in highlighting the vital role school psychologists play in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being. This year’s theme, “Finding Your Path,” encourages students and staff to reflect on their goals and the support systems that help them succeed.
Krisha Parker, a school psychologist with PWCS, has been helping students navigate their paths for nearly two decades.
“This is my 18th year working in Prince William County Public Schools,” Parker said. “It has been an incredible experience to grow alongside such a supportive community of educators, students, and families.”
Parker began her career in Polk County, Florida, where she attended school. One of her first assignments was at her former elementary school.
“That made the experience especially meaningful,” she said.
Parker was inspired to pursue school psychology after experiencing personal loss in high school.
“Experiencing the loss of my sister and being supported by caring professionals inspired me to provide that same guidance and encouragement to young people,” she said.
A typical day for Parker includes conducting assessments, writing reports, collaborating with teachers and families, and addressing both academic and emotional needs.
“No two days are alike,” she said. “But the most rewarding part of my job is seeing students grow, overcome challenges, and gain confidence in themselves.”
Outside of work, Parker enjoys scrapbooking, and her family recently welcomed two five-month-old puppies into their home.
As we celebrate National School Psychology Week, let’s take a moment to recognize and thank the dedicated professionals like Krisha Parker who help students chart their course through school and life. Whether through crisis intervention, teacher consultation, or one-on-one support, school psychologists play a critical role in a positive climate and culture, and an environment supportive of learning and achievement for all.
