2026-27 calendar with the first day of school for students highlighted

The Prince William County School Board has adopted the 2026-27 instructional calendar, designed with input from families and staff. The calendar includes a three-day Thanksgiving break, two weeks for winter break, and a teacher workday following spring break.

Key Dates for Families

  • First day of school for students: August 24, 2026
  • Winter break: December 21, 2026 – January 1, 2027 (schools reopen January 4)
  • Spring break: March 22-29, 2027 (inclusive of a teacher workday on Monday, March 29)
  • Last day of school for students: June 17, 2027

The instructional calendar was developed with broad feedback from the PWCS community. More than 150 PWCS community members were invited to share their priorities for the school calendar and provide feedback on possible instructional calendars. Additionally, more than 11,600 community members shared input through the annual school calendar survey, including 7,772 parents and guardians, and 4,463 staff members.

Your input helped shape a calendar that supports learning, family needs, staff planning, and the needs of our diverse community.

Families are encouraged to review the calendar early to schedule family trips and medical appointments in ways that minimize time away from school.
