The Military Bowl Foundation and Wegmans Food Markets Inc. honored Potomac High School teacher Lisanne (Liz) Boddye through the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative, recognizing her during the Military Bowl in December.
Boddye is a special education teacher at Potomac High, where she is known for her dedication to building strong relationships and helping students grow both academically and personally. As a parent of five military‑connected students who currently attend or have attended PWCS schools, she values the division’s commitment to building strong connections between students, families, and schools.
“My favorite part of teaching is watching students grow in ways that aren’t always immediately visible—confidence taking root, trust forming, and perseverance building over time. Much like in the military, success in the classroom depends on relationships, consistency, and believing that every member of the team matters,” explained Boddye.
Before becoming an educator, Boddye served as a civil affairs sergeant and Russian linguist from 1998 to 2007, completing two tours in Iraq. After her military service, she continued supporting others as a counselor for at-risk youth and later as a foster parent trainer and recruiter—roles that centered on helping families provide stability and advocacy.
Boddye shared that teaching felt like a natural extension of that work: “A place where I could combine service, education, and relationship‑building to support students during critical periods of growth,” she said.
For Potomac High Principal Stacy Norwood, this recognition shines a light on the meaningful impact Boddye brings to the school community every day.
“She embraces every student for who they are and advocates tirelessly on their behalf,” Norwood shared. “Her unwavering support and belief in her students make a lasting difference in their lives. We are so grateful for her hard work and dedication.”
Extra Yard for Teachers, an initiative of the College Football Playoff Foundation, provides grants to public school teachers with military ties or those serving military communities.
