Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will begin the process of naming “Woodbridge Area” Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2026-27 school year. The school is being constructed to relieve existing and projected overcrowding in the Route 1 corridor of Prince William County. Attendance boundaries for the new school were approved by the School Board on February 4, 2026.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the naming process by submitting name suggestions and supporting background information to help inform the naming committee’s work. Share your name ideas for the new school with the naming committee by April 15, 2026.

In developing a recommendation, the committee will consider names that meet one or more of the following criteria in accordance with Policy 854, “Naming of School Facilities”:

  • Relate to local neighborhoods; relevant geographic areas; or places of historical, geographical, geologic, or cultural significance.
  • Honor persons or groups of persons deceased at least three years prior to consideration, who have demonstrated national, state, or local leadership in the fields of education, the arts and sciences, or public service.

Three community input sessions will be held for community name suggestions. Both in-person and virtual options will be available.

The School Naming Committee is composed of School Board Chairman At-Large Dr. Babur Lateef and School Board Members Tracy Blake, Neabsco District and Loree Williams, Woodbridge District.

Recommendations from the School Naming Committee are expected to be presented to the School Board for information and action at a later date.
