Students from Unity Reed High School's class of 2025

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

I wish to remind families about the upcoming Standards of Learning tests, advanced academics evaluations, and end-of-year course assessments. These assessments help us measure student learning and the effectiveness of our instruction, while also providing valuable insight into how we can further support student success. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure students are well-rested, confident, and present on testing days.

I also want to recognize the outstanding educators and staff members who make a difference in PWCS every day. Through our annual Outstanding Educator Awards program, we celebrate individuals who exemplify excellence in service to students and families. I invite you to join us live on Facebook or YouTube at 6:30 p.m. on April 21 for the special red-carpet event and award show as we recognize educators who earned or renewed their National Board Certification, as well as our finalists for the Support Employee, Novice Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and Principal of the Year.

As part of ongoing communication with our entire PWCS community, additional information has been made available on the PWCS website to help keep employees and families informed regarding the potential reduction of approximately $31 million in the funding allocation for the Prince William County School Board-adopted Fiscal Year 2027 budget. We understand that families, schools, and community members may have many questions about what this could mean for our school division. PWCS will continue to closely monitor the county’s budget process. The Board of County Supervisors is scheduled to finalize its budget on Tuesday, April 21, and we will share updates as they become available.

Finally, I would like to remind families that the School Board voted to designate Tuesday, April 21, as a non-attendance day for students due to the statewide election. Several of our schools will serve as polling sites, and this adjustment helps us minimize disruption and maintain safe, orderly learning environments.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support of Prince William County Public Schools.

Sincerely,
Dr. McDade signature
