Last night, during its budget markup, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) conducted a straw poll indicating a potential reduction of more than $31 million to the Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) budget.
While the budget markup meeting was publicly scheduled, PWCS was not made aware that a reduction of this scale would be considered. If the BOCS formally approves this reduction at its meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, PWCS will be required to make significant, unplanned budget adjustments.
We are sharing this information to remain transparent and ensure staff and families are aware of the potential impacts to staffing and programming for the upcoming school year. Based on the scale of the proposed cut, the division anticipates impacts that may include:
