The championship was fueled by strong performances across multiple events, including first-place finishes in armed exhibition, unarmed exhibition, and armed solo. The team also placed second in armed regulation, third in inspection, and fourth in unarmed regulation, helping secure the overall state crown.

Senior Dorcas Korabie said the moment the team was announced as champion was both emotional and validating after a demanding season. “We went through some ups and downs, and realizing we were able to overcome those challenges and become champions was beyond admirable,” she said. “We held each other accountable and supported each other until the end.”

That sense of connection emerged as a recurring theme in cadets’ reflections on the program. Senior Keneryn Rodriguez said the drill team’s motto, “One Team, One Fight,” reflects a bond that extends beyond competition. “Everyone shares a common goal to win and grow together as a family,” Rodriguez said. “We don’t just say it; we’re proud to prove it every day.”

Freshman Anderson Curbean credited the team’s success to consistent effort and mentorship from veteran cadets. “I credit our team’s success to our unwavering dedication to be better every time we hit the drill floor and the unity in the team, with our advanced cadets teaching and guiding the new cadets,” he said.

Senior Jadon Ke said his experience in AFJROTC and on the drill team helped shape his goals after high school. He plans to enroll in Army ROTC, earn a degree in business management from Florida International University, and contract as an officer after college. “Being in AFJROTC and the drill team taught me so many skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership that will help me succeed after high school,” Ke said. “Having such a supportive team empowered me to perform my very best.”

Principal Milly Polanco said the team’s success reflects Unity Reed High’s broader commitment to helping students pursue excellence in academics and extracurricular programs alike. She said the cadets’ achievement shows how students grow as leaders, communicators and resilient teammates while building a culture of accountability and service.

“Their relentless commitment to continuous improvement pushes them to excel each day, while also setting a powerful example for those who will follow,” said Polanco. “They are building a legacy for future cohorts of Unity Reed cadets, defined by excellence, leadership, and pride.”
