The semifinalists were selected from more than 6,500 candidates expected to graduate from high schools across the country this year, highlighting Davis’ achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Reflecting on this accomplishment, Davis shared, “I am thankful to be recognized as a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalist. This honor is due to everyone who has supported me in school and in my extracurricular activities including my teachers, mentors, school administrators, and family.”

“Luke receiving this award speaks to our continued commitment to providing opportunities for students to explore their interests and excel,” said DeLores Lucas, principal of Battlefield High School. “His selection as a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalist shines a light on the school's and the division's mission to prepare students for a thriving future for themselves and their community.”

In the coming months, a distinguished panel of educators will review the semifinalists and select up to 161 students to be named U.S. Presidential Scholars. Those selected will recognized nationally and awarded a Presidential Scholars Medallion during the National Recognition Program event.

Established in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes students for their accomplishments in academics, leadership, service, and character. The program has since expanded to honor students in the arts and career and technical education fields, reflecting excellence across a range of disciplines.
