The Virginia High School League (VHSL) has named Battlefield High School softball head coach Angela Johnson 2026 VHSL Class 6 Softball Coach of the Year.
The honor comes in Johnson’s first season as the team’s head coach, after previously serving as a volunteer coach for the previous two seasons.
“In my first year as head coach at Battlefield, my staff and I were committed to shifting the program's culture by focusing on accountability, hard work, and unity,” Johnson said. “We maintained regular communication to assess our progress, identifying both our successes and areas for improvement.”
The Bobcats finished the season with a 16-7 record and fell in the VHSL State Quarterfinals to the eventual state runner-up.
“Earning this award is a significant honor,” Johnson said. “It is humbling to be nominated and held in high regard by my peers. Being named Coach of the Year is just a reflection on all our hard work and commitment to each other.”
