Selected from a nationwide membership of more than 250,000 students, McGee was awarded $1,000 for his outstanding leadership and commitment to FCCLA.

McGee also earned national recognition in competition, placing third in the nation in the Level 3 Instructional Video Design STAR Event.

"The achievements of Patriot High School’s FCCLA members demonstrate the tremendous impact of Family and Consumer Sciences education in preparing students for success in college, careers, and community leadership," said David Van Gelder, principal of Patriot High.

"Through FCCLA, students develop leadership, career-readiness, and technical skills, while applying their learning to real-world challenges and service opportunities. We are especially proud of Kathryn Jett McVea for serving as a Patriot High School Family and Consumer Sciences teacher and FCCLA chapter sponsor. Her leadership, alongside the remarkable efforts of our student members, has elevated Patriot’s FCCLA chapter and earned recognition at the local, state, and national levels."

Jett McVea said FCCLA provides students with opportunities to strengthen work-based readiness skills through leadership experiences, public speaking, networking, and competitive events.

"FCCLA is introduced to students in Family and Consumer Sciences classes as a way to tie in work-based readiness skills through opportunities within the organization. Patriot FCCLA members take advantage of opportunities to network, practice public speaking, compete in various competitions, and professionally represent our chapter, division, and the Commonwealth,” she said.

FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that helps students develop leadership, career-readiness, and technical skills through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
