In February 2026, Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) partnered with Gallup to learn more about families' experiences with their child's school. Families from every school across the division participated in the Family Engagement Survey, sharing valuable feedback about what is working well and where schools can continue to grow.

To make the survey accessible to as many families as possible, it was offered in multiple languages. Responses were confidential, giving families the opportunity to provide honest feedback about their experiences.

Gallup's analysis looked at five key areas that influence family engagement. Together, these areas help schools better understand what matters most to families and identify opportunities for improvement:

  • School Environment: Families feel welcomed, safe, and respected.
  • Academic Standards: Schools set high expectations for student learning.
  • Personalized Learning: Students receive support that meets their individual needs.
  • Communication and Involvement: Families are informed and involved in their child's education.
  • Leadership: School leaders provide a clear vision and build trust within the school community.

Overall, survey results show that many PWCS families have positive views of their child's school and value the efforts schools make to engage them as partners in education.

Families reported particularly strong agreement with the following statements on a five-point scale:

  • My child's school always delivers on what it promises: 4.1
  • I feel proud to be a parent or guardian at my child's school: 4.25
  • This school is a good fit for my child: 3.98

Gallup also examined overall family engagement across the division. PWCS earned a high median family engagement score of 4.12 out of 5, indicating strong levels of engagement among families. While many families reported feeling connected to their child's school, experiences varied:

  • 38% of families were considered fully engaged. These families reported strong connections to their child's school, actively support school activities and initiatives, and are likely to encourage other families to get involved.
  • 18% of families were considered actively disengaged. These families reported feeling less connected to their child's school and less satisfied with their child's educational experience.
  • 44% of families fell in the middle. Gallup classified this group as indifferent, reflecting a more neutral level of engagement.

The survey results provide valuable insight into how PWCS can continue strengthening relationships between schools and families. By understanding what helps families feel connected and engaged, schools can identify opportunities to improve communication, build trust, and create more meaningful partnerships.
