Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

As we come to the halfway point of the first quarter, I encourage families to check their student’s attendance, grades, and overall academic progress in ParentVUE and connect with teachers when additional support may be needed.

I am proud to congratulate six outstanding PWCS students who have been recognized for exceptional academic achievement by being named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists: Sajeela Ahmad, William Hamilton, and Samuel Zhang from Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School; Abigail Chang from Gainesville High School; Devin Wanchoo from Osbourn Park High School; and Sophia Ramirez Jam from Woodbridge High School.

On Wednesday, October 14, students in grades 9-11 will participate in PSAT Day. The Preliminary SAT provides students with valuable experience in college entrance testing and can help identify areas of academic strength and areas for growth. For students in grade 11, the PSAT also serves as the qualifying assessment for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which awards $10 million in scholarships annually. I encourage our families to explore resources available to help students prepare.

Students and families are invited to attend our upcoming PWCS College & Career Fairs, from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at Gainesville High School, and from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, at Forest Park High School. New this year, our fairs will expand beyond a traditional college focus to include members of the business community, giving students the opportunity to explore employment options available immediately following high school graduation, as well as internships and scholarships. Students can also connect with representatives from colleges and universities, trade and technical schools, businesses, and the military while learning more about financial aid and the many pathways available after graduation.

Whatever path students plan to pursue, preparation begins with understanding the opportunities available to them and taking purposeful steps toward their goals.
