officials, admin staff, and students cutting the ribbonStudents, teachers, staff, families, and community members gathered recently to celebrate the opening of Woodbridge Elementary School during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Located in the Woodbridge District of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) and designed by Moseley Architects, the new school opened for the 2026-27 school year.

Principal Brooke LeVecchi welcomed attendees and reflected on the significance of opening a new school community.

“As one of the newest schools in PWCS, we are honored to serve more than 600 students from Kilby, Potomac View, and Vaughan Elementary Schools, as well as families who are new to the division,” LeVecchi said. “We are so excited for the opportunity to bring these students together and begin a brand-new community. Together, we rise.”

Woodbridge Elementary was designed to support innovative learning and collaboration. The school's mascot, the Phoenix, symbolizes growth, resilience, and new beginnings, and reflects the school's mission to empower every student to design their future, innovate with purpose, belong in a supportive community, and grow to their fullest potential. Woodbridge's school colors are navy blue and orange.

During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the opportunities the new school provides for students and families.

“Commitment 2 in our PWCS Elevate 2030 Strategic Plan... is [to establish] a positive climate and culture. There is no doubt that equitable access to a new, state-of-the-art elementary school positively impacts a school’s climate and culture,” said Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade. “I had the opportunity to visit Woodbridge Elementary School during the first week of school, and the positive environment was clearly demonstrated.”

School Board Chairman At-Large Dr. Babur B. Lateef recognized the new school as a symbol of educational progress.

“Every ribbon cutting is a milestone for the School Board... [This school] not only reaffirms our commitment to our students’ learning but physically shows the value we place on education in our communities,” Lateef said. “This building truly embodies the future of education.”

Loree Y. Williams, School Board member representing the Woodbridge District, echoed this future-focused sentiment.

“Every hallway, every classroom, and every collaborative space in this building was intentionally designed to spark questions, inspire creativity, and remind every child who walks through these doors that they belong here and that their future matters. We are no longer stepping into the future, but designing it through our buildings, curriculum, and community,” Williams remarked.

The ceremony featured performances by Woodbridge music students, who sang "A Million Dreams," the Fred M. Lynn Middle School Choir, which performed the national anthem, and the Presentation of Colors by the Freedom High School Air Force JROTC.

Following the ribbon-cutting, LeVecchi invited guests to join staff-led tours of the school.
