I'm Determined

Prince William County Public Schools collaborates with Regional I’m Determined Ambassadors and the I’m Determined Center, based at James Madison University, to provide students with resources and opportunities that strengthen their self-determination skills, including active participation in their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 meetings.

In addition, the PWCS Career and Transition Services team works closely with the regional Training and Technical Assistance Center at George Mason University and the Virginia Department of Education, which funds the initiative, to bring I’m Determined resources to schools.

A team of PWCS transition specialists further supports schools in implementing the I’m Determined framework and broader self-determination curriculum and resources.

The I’m Determined Center provides engaging opportunities for students, educators, and families to practice self-determination skills. I’m Determined empowers students, especially those with disabilities, to take greater control of their lives by learning to set their own direction rather than remaining passive participants. It helps students develop the essential skills needed to understand their strengths and needs, express themselves effectively, and make informed decisions, skills that are critical for success in school, the workplace, and adult life.

  • Have increased self-confidence and self-advocacy
  • Develop stronger communication skills
  • Are more likely to set and achieve postsecondary goals
