College Partnerships & Programs

Prince William County Public Schools, along with our community partners and universities, collaborate to create opportunities for teachers and staff to enhance their professional growth, meet licensure requirements, and broaden their instructional or professional skill sets. By providing tuition reimbursement, PWCS removes financial barriers and assists each employee with their professional goals. PWCS offers a variety of opportunities to fulfill all requirements.

College Partnerships & Licensure Discount Opportunities

  • George Mason University – Special Education Course 50/50 Cohort is a cost-share program that offers all required provisional licensure coursework for selected applicants.
  • Educate VA – CTE Provisional Coursework offered through grant funding and the Virginia community college system.
  • Northern VA Community College (NOVA) & Longwood University – Provisional professional studies coursework offered through grant funding.
  • Old Dominion University – Tuition Discount for Virginia Educators

    Graduate for less with a 25% tuition discount for eligible Virginia educators.

    As part of our commitment to supporting the growth of Virginia’s educators, we are proud to offer a 25% tuition discount to eligible students.

    To be eligible for the 25% partnership discount, you must be registered for a graduate-level course (500-level or higher) within the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies at ODU and be currently employed by a Virginia public school division.

    • Apply Each Semester: Submit a quick application every term to receive the 25% tuition discount.

    • What’s Covered: The discount applies to tuition only – fees aren’t included.

  • Phoenix University – 10% discount on tuition costs. Also, University of Phoenix courses are online and asynchronous, designed specifically for working adults to balance work, school, and life. Their four-week classes are offered monthly, year-round, allowing teachers to complete their requirements quickly or move at a pace that works best for them.

  • UVA Wise – Offers coursework opportunities designed to support Virginia provisionally licensed teachers as they work toward full PK-3/PK-6 licensure.
    • Special pricing: MTH and MUS courses are offered at a reduced tuition rate of $381 per course (in-state)

Alternate Pathways to Licensure

  • iTeach – iTeach is an alternative teacher certification program approved by the Virginia Department of Education. This self-paced, fully online program can be completed in 12–18 months, offering flexibility for working professionals. Enrollment is open year-round through the iTeach website. Participants are eligible to obtain a three-year Provisional License and fulfill the requirements to earn a 10-year Professional License.
  • Virginia Commonwealth University - Teacher Residency Program (RTR) – PWCS is proud to partner with Virginia Commonwealth University to offer a highly selective teacher residency program designed for future educators passionate about making a difference in high-need schools. Through RTR, participants earn a full salary and benefits while completing their degree tuition-free, gaining hands-on classroom experience alongside expert mentor teachers. Pathways include Elementary Education, Special Education (K-12), and Secondary Education in English, Math, History, or Science. Graduates commit to teaching for three years in high-need schools and receive ongoing coaching and support to ensure success.

VDOE Approved Programs

The Virginia Department of Public Education provides information on a variety of public and private colleges and universities throughout Virginia. These institutions provide programs of study for aspiring educators and continuing education opportunities for veteran teachers.
