Certification and Licensure

The Office of Certification supports instructional staff by providing guidance on licensure requirements, processing licensure and salary upgrade requests, and serving as the liaison with the Virginia Department of Education to ensure compliance with current regulations and guidelines.

Critical Functions and Activities

• Provides guidance to licensed staff on all licensure processes and salary upgrades.
• Provides new instructional employees with an overview of licensure requirements and forms.
• Processes licensure requests for instructional employees to be sent to the Virginia Department of Education.
• Processes salary upgrade requests.
• Certification specialists work directly with the Virginia Department of Education on behalf of staff for all licensure-related requests.
• The Virginia Department of Education, as the official licensing agency, makes the final determination in all licensure matters based on current regulations and guidelines.
• Requires license holders to follow instructions for each licensure request.
• Requires license holders to submit a complete licensure packet to their assigned licensure specialist in the PWCS Office of Certification.
