About Vernon J. Bock

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) appointed Vernon J. Bock as Chief Operating Officer on August 1, 2022. Bock joined PWCS from Frederick County Public Schools, Winchester, Virginia, where he served as Associate Superintendent for Administration.

As Chief Operating Officer, reporting directly to the Superintendent and serving as a member of the Executive Cabinet, Bock is the principal adviser and assistant to the Superintendent for school support services. He provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for the division's operational functions, including facilities and grounds for 103 schools, centers, and support facilities; the maintenance, improvement, and operation of these facilities, including 94 cafeterias; and transportation services for a fleet of 772 buses. In addition, Bock oversees the division’s Security and Crisis Readiness and Risk Management, Safety, and Environmental Services Departments, ensuring comprehensive emergency preparedness, enterprise risk management, workplace and student safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship across Prince William County Public Schools.

Bock has 30 years of experience in instructional and leadership roles across numerous school systems. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher and subsequently served as an assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. Most recently, as Associate Superintendent for Frederick County Public Schools, Bock led the division's Health and Safety Committee during the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff while maintaining in-person instruction.

In his previous role with Frederick County Public Schools, Bock supervised and coached principals, the Director of Special Instructional Services, Director of Student Support Services, Executive Director of Human Resources, Director of Information Technology, Director of Policy and Communications, Director of Facilities, Director of Transportation, Director of Nutrition Services, Supervisor of Construction, and Coordinator of Planning and Development.

Bock holds master's degrees in educational administration and educational technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
