Eligibility & Application Information

Certified Employment Eligibility

Eligibility for Licensure through the Virginia Department of Education

Prince William County Public Schools is able to consider instructional employment applicants who are eligible for licensure through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). To determine if you are eligible for a teaching position, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Have you received a bachelor's degree or will you have received a bachelor's degree by the start of the school year?
  • Do you hold a valid Virginia certification? Do you hold certification in another state that is comparable to licensure areas in Virginia?
  • Are you eligible for Virginia certification (full or provisional)?

Before applying, review each job posting carefully to confirm the licenses or certifications required for the position.

Complete the Certified Application

  • Submit a Certified application in WinOcular WorkSpace before applying to any Certified posting.
  • Ensure all sections display a green checkmark prior to submission.

How to Complete the Online Application

Upload Required Documents

The following documents do not need to be completed at the time you apply; however, they must be received before an offer of employment.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to upload all required documentation directly to their online application. Submission of documents via email, fax, mail, or drop off may result in delayed consideration, as documentation may be utilized when determining the most qualified candidates.

  • Proof of highest completed education - (Unofficial transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework)
  • Transcript evaluation - Required for graduates of foreign institutions. Must include a course-by-course analysis from a VDOE-approved agency. (Download the transcript evaluation form)
  • College Verification Form - May be required in certain circumstances. (Download the college verification form)
  • Licenses or certificates (if required for the position) - Review the job description carefully to determine which licenses or certificates are required.
  • College Verification Form (Word) upon program completion - Required if you completed an approved licensure program (completed by the university).
  • Valid out-of-state teaching license - Full credential with no deficiencies (if applicable).
  • PRAXIS II score report - If completed.
  • Cover letter addressed to Donna Eagle, Ed.D., Chief Human Resources Officer, identifying the administrative role(s) sought.
  • Current resume including complete work history and supervisors listed.
  • Two confidential references
    • Applicants graduating from an education program should include their student teaching/internship supervisor and cooperating teacher.
    • One from your current supervisor.
    • One from a previous supervisor or an individual who has supervised you.

Maintain Active Application Status

  • Applications remain active for six months.
  • To reactivate an inactive application, review and resubmit it in WinOcular WorkSpace.

If you hold a professional counseling, social work, or psychology license, you may be eligible for provisional school counseling licensure in Virginia. PWCS offers tuition assistance to support candidates pursuing this pathway.
