Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) has entered into an innovative partnership with George Mason University (GMU) to simplify the admissions process for students. Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher now have an opportunity to access an abbreviated and free application process, outside of the Common Application, leading to an offer of admission to GMU for the fall 2025 semester. This partnership is part of PWCS’ strategic commitment to increase access and opportunity for students to post-high school education.
“We are thrilled to offer our students this streamlined pathway to post-secondary education,” said Dr. Anaid Shaver, supervisor of college and career services for PWCS. “This GMU direct admissions process simplifies admission applications for eligible students and offers the necessary support to guide them through it. We deeply appreciate this partnership with GMU, which is helping our students launch thriving futures."
The following eight eligible PWCS high schools are included in this pilot:
- C.D. Hylton High School
- Forest Park High School
- Freedom High School
- Gar-Field High School
- Osbourn Park High School
- Potomac High School
- Unity Reed High School
- Woodbridge High School
Eligible students and families were notified about this opportunity in August. Students selected for GMU direct admissions will receive the benefit of a streamlined admissions process and application, which includes an application fee waiver and doesn’t require the student to submit an essay or letters of recommendation unless applying for Honors College. Those who’ve opted-in and meet the criteria can expect to receive an email from GMU in mid-late September to apply through direct admissions.
