Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,
As we approach October, PWCS is excited to share important opportunities for our students and families. First, I am pleased to share that eligible PWCS students who speak a language other than English can earn up to three high school world language credits by demonstrating proficiency through an approved external assessment. The online application is open and will remain open until October 15. Please visit the PWCS World Languages and Dual Language Immersion webpage for details.
PWCS is proud to host two upcoming college fairs—on Monday, October 6, at Unity Reed High School and Wednesday, October 15, at Potomac High School, both from 6-8 p.m. These events offer students and families the chance to meet with representatives from in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities, learn about military college pathways, and gain insight into financial aid and scholarships. To save time, parents and students are encouraged to create a StriveScan profile before the event. More details are available on the PWCS College Fair webpage.
On Thursday, October 16, students in grades 9-11 will participate in PSAT testing during the school day. Grade 9 students will take the PSAT 8/9, while students in grades 10-11 will take the PSAT/NMSQT. These assessments are important milestones in the college and career planning process.
To support preparation, all PWCS high school students in grades 9-12 now have access to Khan Academy through the PWCS Portal. This free resource offers personalized tools, instructional videos, and practice assessments aligned with the College Board. Two of the most used SAT preparation courses are:
Along with attending the college fair and completing the PSAT, these resources are part of a broader journey of academic and career planning. Families can also access Student Vision Profiles through ParentVUE, available for all students in grades 6-12. These profiles help guide meaningful conversations at home about postsecondary goals and the steps needed to achieve them.
Finally, a reminder that schools and offices will be closed Thursday, October 2, in observance of Yom Kippur. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping every PWCS student prepare for a thriving future.
Sincerely,

LaTanya D. McDade, Ed.D.
