Assistive Technology (AT) includes tools and supports that help students with disabilities access learning and participate in school activities. These tools can increase, maintain, or improve a student’s functional skills.
AT can support communication, reading, writing, math, organization, and/or access to classroom materials. Students can use Assistive Technology at any age or grade level. Every student with a disability should have AT considered as part of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

AT helps students take part in classroom learning with foster independence. It supports access to instruction, helps students complete assignments, and supports meaningful participation.
Assistive Technology Specialists partner with IEP teams to determine which tools best support a student’s needs. The team reviews the student’s strengths, challenges, and learning goals to select appropriate AT solutions for the student to access a Free and Appropriate Public Education.
