Multi-Year Support Plans

How We Support Our Schools

Every year, the Virginia Department of Education reviews school performance. Based on this review, some schools are identified for targeted support and improvement. This means one or more student groups need extra help to improve student performance.

When a school is identified for targeted support and improvement, it must create a Multi-Year School Support Plan. This plan outlines how the school will improve student learning and strengthen support for all students.

What Is a Multi-Year School Support Plan?

Each school identified for targeted support and improvement creates a multi-year plan that:

  • Looks closely at school data to understand student needs (including completing a needs assessment and root cause analysis).
  • Includes at least two proven, research-backed strategies to support student learning (as defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act).
  • Aligns with the school’s current PWCS Continuous Improvement Plan and PWCS’ Strategic Plan.
  • Sets clear, measurable goals and tracks progress over time.
  • Uses feedback from families, staff, students, and community members, and identifies any needed resources.

The Multi-Year School Support Plan is a required federal school improvement plan and works hand-in-hand with each school’s PWCS continuous improvement efforts.
