Summer school is open to K-12 students identified by their teachers and/or counselors as needing to attend. If you have questions concerning whether your child is eligible for summer school, contact your child’s teacher or school counselor. If you have a high school student who has failed a course, they should enroll in summer school to repeat the course and earn credit.
Discovery Enrichment Programs are open to all students. There is a tuition cost for Discovery Enrichment Programs but scholarships are available.
Seniors who can graduate in July with additional targeted support and need up to three credits and SOL tests to satisfy diploma requirements to graduate should register for summer school. Please have your senior check with their high school counselor to verify what is needed to graduate and to register.
If your student has been identified by their school to participate in summer school, there is no cost to attend.
There is a tuition cost for Discovery enrichment programs, but scholarships are available. Discovery programs are open to all students.
Summer school is an extension of the 2025-26 school year, and students should sign up for the program that corresponds with their current grade level.
Select schools are chosen to host summer programs. The school attended for summer school is determined by the student's school. Yes. Transportation is available for students enrolled in summer school and Discovery Enrichment programs. Bus stops for summer programs will be different from regular school-year bus stops. No special bus stops will be established for individual students. Summer program bus stop locations will be posted and communicated before the start of summer programs. Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost to all students in regular summer school programs. Students enrolled in Discovery Enrichment Programs will be provided a snack daily at no cost.
Students attending the AlphaBEST summer program will attend that school's summer school program.
No, students must be currently enrolled in a PWCS school full time in order to attend summer school.
Students in summer school may take up to two courses for the summer.
No, students wanting to take a new course for advancement and to earn first-time credit should take courses through Virtual Prince William.
Yes. Students may choose a two-week remediation and testing, or a test-only option. If a student is already enrolled in summer school, they will take the corresponding SOL.
If a student is signed up for a course that has a corresponding SOL test (e.g., Algebra, Biology), the student will automatically be signed up for the SOL if needed.
