To help families prepare for the first day, following are 10 key things to know for a successful start to the 2025-26 school year. More details will be shared in the coming days and weeks

  1. Back to School Packet Opens August 5

Starting August 5, families must complete the Back to School Packet in ParentVUE for each student. This ensures schools have accurate emergency contact information and other essential updates. Completing the packet unlocks access to key details like class schedules and bus routes – so don’t delay!

  1. Cell Phone-Free Education

PWCS’ new cell phone-free education policy takes effect this school year. The policy supports focused learning, safe spaces, and healthier tech habits. Learn more during our August 6 webinar or by visiting the Cell Phone-Free Education webpage

  1. New Bus Tracking App: EZ A2B

The EZ A2B app is replacing Here Comes the Bus to improve reliability and routing efficiency. Families can track their child’s bus in real-time – download it before school starts!

  1. Required Immunizations for Students Due by August 15

All immunization documentation must be submitted before the first day of school per Virginia law. The PWCS health requirements webpage provides immunization and physical  examination requirements for students entering PWCS in grades kindergarten through 12. Contact your school nurse if you need help getting records updated.

  1. PWCS Portal Replaces Clever

Students will now access digital tools like Canvas and educational apps through the PWCS Portal – a new, streamlined login hub that replaces Clever.

  1. School Meals: What Families Need to Know

PWCS will offer free breakfast and lunch to students at 69 schools through the Community Eligibility Program (CEP)—now including Old Bridge Elementary School.

Families with students not at CEP schools may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals. These applications also help determine eligibility for other services.

Menus, updated meal prices, and information about payment options (check, cash, or MySchoolBucks) are available on the PWCS Food and Nutrition website.

  1. Updated Student Athlete Requirements

PWCS has revised student athlete participation guidelines to align with new state laws. These updates improve safety and simplify required forms for families and coaches.

  1. New Devices by Grade Level

iPads: For students in PreK–8
Laptops: For high school students
Devices will be issued by each school. Families have the option to purchase low-cost student device insurance through the PWCS-approved third-party vendor, Securranty.
