Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,
Throughout March, PWCS celebrates several observances, including Music in Our Schools Month, Theatre in Our Schools Month, and Youth Art Month. To promote the importance of the arts, I invite you to attend one of our spring 2026 theatre arts productions and All-County Music or Arts Festivals across elementary, middle, and high schools. We hope to see you there.
In addition to celebrating student achievement in the arts, we are also supporting important academic milestones this spring. On Wednesday, April 15, all grade 11 students in PWCS will participate in the School Day SAT, a significant step in their college and career planning. Whether students prepare for college or explore other postsecondary pathways, we are committed to equipping them with the resources they need.
To help students prepare, PWCS high school students have Khan Academy access via the PWCS Portal. As the official SAT prep, Khan Academy provides instructional videos, practice tests, and resources for the SAT. This free platform offers personalized tools, video lessons, and practice assessments designed to match College Board standards. Two of the most used SAT preparation courses are:
In the weeks ahead, families should also note several important registration dates for summer programs. Registration for our Discovery Enrichment Programs opens Monday, March 9. These engaging programs are available to students in kindergarten through ninth grade, and scholarships are offered for students who receive free or reduced-price meals. Families should register by Friday, May 22. As registration is limited, spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Summer school registration will begin on Wednesday, April 8. The summer school program is designed to support K-12 students who have been recommended by their teachers or counselors for participation. Families will receive notification regarding eligibility from their school. High school students who may need credit recovery or SOL remediation should speak directly with their school counselor. Registration will close Friday, May 22, for elementary and middle school students and Friday, June 5, for high school students.
We are also pleased to host an in-person job fair for high school students interested in working as student teacher aides during the PWCS Summer School Program. The job fair will take place from 5:30–6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School. Students must be at least 16 years old as of June 18, 2026, to be eligible. Interested students should visit the Summer Employment webpage for application instructions and bring a printed copy of their completed online application and required school references to the event.
Enjoy the weekend.
Sincerely,
LaTanya D. McDade, Ed.D.
