Discovery Enrichment Programs

Registration for Discovery Programs will be open from April 9, 2024, through May 24, 2024.

2024 Discovery Programs

  • Discovery Enrichment Programs are available for Prince William County Public Schools students only.
  • Course locations are based on your child's base school. Families will only see the courses available to them when registering based on their home address.
  • Discovery programs have associated tuition costs.
  • Scholarships are available to cover the entire tuition for students.
    • For students attending a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school please email your student's name and school to [email protected]. CEP schools are listed on the School Meals Information website.
    • Scholarships are also available for students receiving free and reduced lunch.
    • Please email the letter received from PWCS Food and Nutrition Department verifying eligibility for the free or reduced-price meal benefits for the 2023-24 school year.
    • To request a letter, please contact the Food and Nutrition Department.
    • Please email the letter to [email protected].

How to Register

Registration Information

  1. Parents/guardians will register using Student Quick Pay.
  2. At the login screen, you can log in to or create their account. Please follow these instructions if you need to create an account.
  3. Once you have log in, you will see the name of your student(s). Select the student that you are registering.
  4. Select the Summer School tab.
  5. Then, select the program you would like to register for by clicking on that program.
  6. Complete the registration form by filling out the required fields.
    • If your student receives any of the following services or has any medical issues, you will check the box(es) that apply.
  7. Select the appropriate Transportation method.
  8. Check the box to confirm that you've read the Registration Information statement.
  9. Select Add to Cart when all information has been completed.
  10. Once your course selection(s) have been added to your cart, select the shopping cart icon in the top right to checkout.
  11. Complete the payment form and click Submit Payment when finished. Courses must be paid in full for your registration to be complete; partial payments will not be accepted.

  • If you receive the following message, "you have already added this program to your cart," then the course is already full.

How to Cancel Your Registration and Request a Refund

We understand summer plans can change. We are offering the following refund policy for summer 2024.

  • The last day to cancel an enrichment program registration for a refund is May 31. No refunds or credits will be given for enrichment programs after that date.
  • To cancel a registration before May 31, email your student's name and the name of the summer program to [email protected].

Arts Camps

Art Enrichment Camp: Grades 2-8

Current Grade Level(s): 2-8

Description: Join us for a two-week immersive visual art experience. During this program, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of techniques with both two-and three-dimensional art media. An art exhibit for students and families serves as our culminating event. Participants will need to attend both weeks of the program.

Description: This Discovery Enrichment Program will engage students in a wide range of music-making and performing arts experiences while exploring a variety of cultures, genres, and styles of music.

Career and Technical Education Camps

Coding and Computer Science Summer Discovery: Grades 5-7

Description: Are you interested in app development or game design? Do you enjoy solving puzzles and creative design? Learn the basics of programming including commands, functions, and control structures in this exciting and interactive one-week summer camp experience! Students will explore computational thinking and computer science concepts in an easy-to-understand and hands-on way. Students will need to bring their school-issued device and charger daily.

Digital Literacy and 3D Modeling Summer Discovery Camp: Grades 5-7

Description: It is 2050, and NASA just declared that the moon is open to tourists! Data scientists, engineers, and marketers are invited to join this one-week entrepreneurial venture to create the first lunar cruise line taking people to the moon! Students will engage in technology exploration, 3D modeling, and creative technology in a collaborative, project-based learning discovery experience. Students will need to bring a school-issued device and charger daily.

3D Design and Manufacturing Summer Discovery: Grades 5-7

Description: Calling all future business owners and 3D printing enthusiasts! Explore concepts in 3D design and manufacturing, market research, video production, and web technologies as you develop and launch a fictional school store selling 3D-printed merchandise during this one-week, interactive summer discovery camp. No prior experience needed! Students will need to bring a school-issued device and charger daily.

Full STEAM Ahead: Circuits and Programming with Microcontrollers: Grades 5-7

Current Grade Level(s): 5-7

Description: Participants will build their own 3D-printed digital pianos, gaining firsthand experience with the mechanics of each key and note. Through interactive sessions, they will delve into the fascinating world or Arduino microcontrollers, learning to program melodies and rhythms and transforming their creations into musical instruments with a compact integrated circuit and basic knowledge of wiring and programming.

The "Full STEAM Ahead" Summer Discovery experience is ideally suited for students who enjoy music and possess a curious mind about how things work, especially students who enjoy building, tinkering, and exploring technology.

Gifted Education and Talent Development Enrichment Camp

Game Design: Grades 4-5

Current Grade Level(s): 4-5

Description: Students will learn about probability as they study fair and unfair games. They will use their new learning to create their own board games and will learn to code fair games in Scratch. Students will need to bring their school issued device and charger daily.

Health and Physical Education Camps

Summer Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition Enrichment: Grades 3-4

Current Grade Level(s): 3-4

Description: This sport, fitness, and nutrition enrichment program is designed for rising 4th through 5th-grade students looking to be active and engage in various movements and activities. Students will have the opportunity to exercise and work with others in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. Students will participate in various sports, fitness games, and activities and learn key nutritional concepts and information. The activities will include moderate to vigorous physical activity opportunities but balanced with time for low-intensity activities, social interaction, teamwork, and problem-solving. PWCS elementary physical education teachers will facilitate the program.

The College Application Essay: Telling Your Unique Story in 650 Words Camp: Grades 9-11

Current Grade Level(s): 9-11

Description: This course is designed for all levels of learners interested in further developing their English skills in a challenging college-level academic setting. This course is designed to help students learn writing strategies and techniques that create a memorable college essay. The course uses the prompts required for students who use the Common App. In 650 words, students write a compelling essay that reveals their unique story. This course focuses on developing skills in the art of written storytelling as well as the power of concise, organized language. Lessons and activities focus on analysis of rhetorical patterns and development of language structures. Model college essays are used to provide scaffolding. These models are evaluated by students during guided practice activities. Students engage in a simulation where they analyze sample essays in the role of an admissions officer so they learn what schools value and what makes a story memorable. In writing workshops, students will complete the course with a final college essay draft, enhanced writing skills, and knowledge of the expectations common to American universities.

Description: Embark on an exciting journey in the world of robotics! This camp will provide STEAM-focused, hands-on activities using the LEGO Essential kits. Each day, learners will participate in team-building and physical activities, and receive a briefing for a daily challenge that will help them to develop skills and knowledge to complete the culminating project of designing and programming an amusement park ride.

Participants will create catapults, build basketball hoops, join a viscosity race, design a lava lamp, assemble simple machines, and so much more, all while learning about Newton's Laws of Motion and teamwork. Description: This program is for students interested in connecting science to the world of criminal justice. The program will explore the worlds of Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Anthropology, Fingerprints and Impressions, and Blood Spatter. Students will utilize laboratory investigations and "case study" learning approaches for a fun and informative look at the world of Forensic Science.
